Dark Reign + Expansion

Fan patches save this masterpiece

Released smack in-between red-alert and Tib Sun, Darkreign is a bit obscure, which is sad because this is one of my favorite rts' second only to whichever c&c game I feel like today. Running the game on windows 10 is a pain unless you grab the fan-made v1.8 patch, it runs the game through a wrapper allowing it to run on modern os' without palette glitches and you can even set it in windowed mode with some cfg fiddling. The 1.8 patch even re-ads the music for the expansion which is missing in the gog version because whomever made the expansion messed with the formats of the music. Gameplay is solid with asymmetrical factions and an ai that will not take your crap, there are some missions that seem flatout impossible at first but once you recognize what the game wants you feel like a tactical powerhouse. If you like the old cnc games and want something different but the same then this is worth a shot

Secret Agent HD

A nice update to an apgoee classic

I quite like the old apogee games and it's nice to see this update not only give it some slight graphical TLC (it runs smoother and the color is a bit cleaner) but they also added the extra episode and a nifty little map editor for players to use.

Hyperspeed

Good game, not for everyone

This is a space sim akin to star control you are tasked with finding humanity a new home in one of four starclusters, to do this you must find a suitable planet, find enough of the four resources the colony will need and destroy any threats in the sector. the game is basically a set of disguised puzzles. Combat puzzles: each alien race has their own tactics and quirks, be it spawning more fighters or having a shield emitter you have to destroy with fighters, each race is different trade puzzles: not only trading for better components with which to fully kit your ship but trading for the colony resources you need. political puzzles: not really relevant in the first cluster but every other cluster has some kind of hierarchy or caste system. for example one sector has three factions in an uneasy stalemate which your presence may destabilize. Each sector gets trickier and the risk of getting stuck in an unwinnable situation becomes bigger, which is why I say it's not for everyone. you really have to take your time and think things through, but if you have the patience this game is pretty fun

METAL GEAR SOLID

140.15

A good game and a perfectly functional port, I haven't played every version to compare but this one runs from install without much fuss and hasn't died on me yet My only complaint is this version does not give you meryls codec ingame (normally this is found on the back of the game jewel case, its one of the screenshots) So I'm making it the title of my review for future buyers

DOOM 3

Great Game just not this one

Doom 3 is one of my favorites, I play it at least once a year. Something that shocked me was when I first got internet and heard that this and Quake 4 were considered bad games. I couldn't believe it, the common complaint is that its more of a horror game than an fps and its too slow, and it is true Doom 3 is a slower paced more atmospheric fps, there will be no rocket jumping or tearing and ripping in this game but you will probably enjoy this if you like tense horror, but feel you need a minigun to reassure you. Now this is the bfg edition which claims to be the definitive collectors edition as it includes Doom 1 and 2 and 3 and expansions and several official bonus levels in one package. But what i didn't like was that doom 3 has the duct tape mod implemented permanently, what this does is allow you to have both a gun and a flashlight whereas in the original you had to choose. This feels like they changed it just because of the aforementioned doofusus who complained it isnt just doom2 with new levels. So id say rather grab the vanilla doom3 (the expansion isnt that great anyway) unless you are a massive wus
